BIOGRAPHY

Singer Pur – a sextet consisting of five former young choristers of Regensburg Cathedral (Domspatzen) and a soprano – gave their concert debut in March 1992. They have since developed into an internationally top-rated a cappella ensemble.

They won first prize in the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb in Bonn in 1994, and one year later at the Grand Prix für Vokalmusik at the Tampere Music Festival in Finland. Frequent concerts and festival performances have followed since then, indicating the excellent reputation of this highly experienced ensemble, whose concert tours have taken them to 60 countries on six continents. Some highlights of the last few years were performances in the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Philharmonie de Paris and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Peking. Singer Pur has also reached a much wider audience through radio and television productions. The Hilliard Ensemble meets Singer Pur, was a project created in conjunction with the worldfamous British ensemble, featuring vocal music for up to 10 voices.

Their many CD recordings show how wide and varied their repertoire is - like a journey through the various periods of musical history. Two of their recordings of Renaissance music were nominated as best CD production of the year by the specialist journal Le Monde de la Musique. Singer Pur has been awarded the ECHO KLASSIK prize on three occasions - in 2005 for a recording of contemporary music composed exclusively for Singer Pur, in 2007 for SOS – Save Our Songs, featuring new arrangements of German folk songs, and in 2011 for Jeremiah in conjunction with the clarinettist David Orlowsky.

In October 2022 the sextet was awarded the OPUS KLASSIK for the CD Among Whirlwinds, which features vocal music by female composers from Hildegard von Bingen to Joanne Metcalf. The city of Regensburg honoured Singer Pur with its highest award for culture – the Kulturpreis der Stadt Regensburg – in recognition of their indefatigable international activity as ambassadors of Regensburg. Other distinctions include the Bayerischer Staatspreis für Musik in 2013. the Friedrich Bauer Preis in 2014 and the title Ambassador of the Friends of European Choral Music, awarded by the European Choral Association – Europa Cantat in 2015. In 2007 Singer Pur began to get involved in the task of introducing classical music to schoolchildren, in particular with the project Rhapsody in School. The group also regularly hold workshops, in which Singer Pur's enormous wealth of experience can be passed on to choirs and other vocal ensembles. Since 2019, they have held their own annual festival of music – Singer Pur Tage - continuing the tradition of Stimmwercktage - on the Adlersberg near Regensburg.
